Ashley Nunn

Ashley Nunn, MA, E-RYT 200 received her 200 Hour Teacher Training from Larry Schultz at It's Yoga in San Francisco in 2004. She went on to assist Larry in teacher training courses at It's Yoga from 2004 to 2007. While living in California, she practiced extensively with Rusty Wells and Laura Camp and continues to incorporate what she learned from these teachers into her classes. In addition to teaching in studios in San Francisco and Washington DC, Ashley has taught yoga extensively to children and adolescent survivors of sexual abuse and severe trauma, to inner city children, and to girls and women receiving in-patient treatment for eating disorders. Ashley began meditating in 1999 and has completed multiple 10-day Vipassana meditation courses. She received meditation instructors certification through Mindful Schools of Oakland, CA. In 2009, Ashley started a meditation program for staff at a residential treatment treatment for severely emotionally disturbed boys called St Vincent's School for Boys in Marin, CA, where she worked at the time. She went on to work with people with dementia and their families at  Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington DC and founded their vibrant Meditation and Mindfulness Program for Patients, Staff and Visitors in 2012. Ashley returns to Sibley regularly to offer retreats to people with dementia, their caregivers, cancer survivors, and others. Ashley holds a Bachelor's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Painting and Printmaking and a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy. She is an equine-assisted therapist and a Level 1 World Paddle Association stand-up paddle board yoga instructor. In 2015, she co-founded a program that helps adult survivors of sibling loss process their grief and connect with other survivors of sibling loss. She started a yoga teacher training program; last year, she also founded Awakened Heart Yoga School, and through her project Awakened Heart Sanctuary, she continues to offer yoga, SUP yoga, and meditation retreats.
