Phillipa Armes

I live, breathe, and teach GYROTONIC. I strongly believe that people from all walks of life can benefit from this movement system, and aspire to bring this modality to an even wider following. My background in dance greatly informs my process - I approach my group and private classes with an emphasis on organic movement and play, balanced with challenging and strength-building sequences that meet each individual where their bodies and goals are.

Techniques I teach/provide:

I've been at Evolve since:

When I'm not teaching at Evolve, you can find me:

Working at my day job in marketing and communications; hiking the AT or any of the amazing state and national parks in and around NC; working out; curled up with a book in my hammock; exploring and enjoying local events, museums, coffee shops, restaurants, and bars with my wonderful boyfriend, Kevin; spending time with friends; snuggling with my sweet tabby, Poppy; and generally always seeking the next great adventure.

My favorite thing about teaching at Evolve is:

My amazing, inspiring clients; and the beautiful, generous, diverse community that we have fostered here. I feel immensely grateful to be surrounded by the love, wisdom, and healing that is Evolve, and consider myself lucky to call this community my family. Doing what I love and empowering others to embrace their strength through movement is pretty incredible too!

My morning routine is:

Wake up, water, work out, belly rubs with Poppy, coffee, commute, more coffee, settle into a busy day at the office.

I'm inspired by:

The arts; movement; creativity; innovation; revolution; nonconformity; powerful, unapologetic, unabashedly brazen trailblazers; the enduring power of the human spirit; generosity; perseverance; minimalism; nature; music; big ideas coupled with bold actions; design; the positivity and support of my friends and colleagues; beauty in simplicity.

Best advice I've received:

Pursue endeavors, foster relationships, and do things that add value to your life.

My favorite quote:

“We come spinning out of nothingness, scattering stars like dust.” – Rumi
