What is Pilates?

Pilates offers a way to strengthen and lengthen your muscles in a way that supports and stabilizes your skeleton, creating a low-stress approach to physical and mental conditioning.

Pilates builds strength from the center of your body, focusing on your “core”: your abdominal, back, and gluteus muscles. From there, the exercises flow outward. 


Pilates is a method that can be tailored to both new and advanced students, offering a constantly growing challenge as your body gains strength and grace. Pilates exercises can be performed on a mat or on the Pilates apparatus. Our clients regularly report immediate relief from back and joint pain, as well as better posture and a revitalizing energy boost.

Created by Joseph Pilates, this method is based on six fundamental principles:

  1. Concentration
  2. Breath
  3. Centering
  4. Control
  5. Precision
  6. Flow

Our instructors are experts in his philosophy and techniques, incorporating contemporary modifications as they guide clients toward a strong personal practice.
